Director's Greeting
Dear Visitors,
Compared to settled civilizations museum in Mongolia have developed only recently. Until the beginning of the 20th century nomadic Mongolia did not have any museum as such, but this changed when in 1924 the first museum was opened. In 2008 the "National Museum for Mongolian History" was elevated in status to national museum, and henceforth our museum changed its name to "National Museum of Mongolia".
Since the establishment of museum in Mongolia, museum have collected historically, ethnographically, and intellectually significant objects relating to Mongolia's culture with the objective to preserve Mongolia's heritage for future generations. The National Museum of Mongolia (NMM) is dedicated to preserve, to exhibit, and to research Mongolian cultural heritage not only in order to educate the Mongolian public , but also to enrich our foreign visitors' experience of Mongolia. In its role as a research institute, the museum equally reaches out to the academic community and welcome them to contribute with their research to our current knowledge of Mongolian culture. Over the years, we have presented our findings and collection in the form of theme exhibits, reports and public lectures.
Now we are focusing on our visitors more than ever, while adopting a more open approach to remain in step with the changing paradigm for museum in the 21st century. We are working to serve you better, and we hope this new homepage reflects this effort.
We hope that you will enjoy your visit to our museum greatly and we are looking forward to seeing you again. Thank you very much.
