Kublai Khan and the Mongol Generals

This year marks the 805th anniversary of the birth of Kublai Khan—a brilliant ruler of the Golden Lineage and successor to Genghis Khan. Kublai Khan was born at the Kherlen Palace to Sorghaghtani Beki, the Great Khatun of Tolui, on the "Blue Rabbit" day—the 15th day of the first month of autumn—in the "Blue Pig" year of the fourth sexagenary cycle. Among the Mongol khans who succeeded Genghis Khan, Kublai Khan stands out as a preeminent figure whose name is indelibly inscribed in world history.

This exhibition presents—for your viewing pleasure—fascinating wax figures that recreate the likenesses of Kublai Khan, as well as other historical figures and heroes of the Mongol Empire era. It also showcases a selection of unique and priceless artifacts from the Yuan Dynasty held in the collection of the National Museum of Mongolia.

Wax sculpture is a distinctive form of visual art that captures the true likeness, facial features, and physical characteristics of real historical figures. By faithfully recreating the appearances, attire, and adornments of historical figures from the era of the Mongol Empire, these wax sculptures offer significant educational value to children and young people; furthermore, the exhibition is curated in an engaging manner that evokes a vivid sense of realism, as if bringing historical moments to life in the present day.

We are organizing this exhibition—which offers a unique opportunity to view both the artist's recreations of historical figures and tangible historical artifacts in one place—in collaboration with the "Munkh Tengriin Tsag" NGO and the Genghis Khan Wax Museum.

The exhibition will be open to the public from September 23 to October 23, 2020.
